UW "Day of Action"

United Way Day of Action
Each year, United Way of Ponca City joins with hundreds of other United Ways around the world to participate in the United Way Day of Action. This year’s event was held at two community summer feeding programs the New Emergency Resource Agency and First Lutheran School. United Way staff and volunteers surprised the children with a treasure-trove of new books to choose from and take home. Reading is the key to a successful life, but children should know that reading is fun too, says Melissa Young, United Way Executive Director. By providing children with books, United Way wanted to encourage reading and enhance literacy for the upcoming school year. Over 300 books were given out during the month of July. United Way’s Education focus partners supported in 2017 are Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Boys Scouts Cimarron Council, Child Development Center, Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma, PC Literacy Council and Northern Oklahoma Academic Tutoring Foundation.

If you would like to be a volunteer for this year’s campaign or need information on United Way, its partner agencies and initiatives call Melissa at 580.765.2476 or stop by 205 N. 2nd Street from 8:30-4:30pm Monday-Friday. “Like us on Facebook” and check out our website, www.unitedwayponcacity.org.
