UW "Day of Action"

Each year in June, United Ways around the world come together for a “Day of Action”. Its volunteers coming together to make a difference in their community focusing on Education, Financial Stability and Health/Safety.

In years past, United Way of Ponca City’s Day of Action focused on summer reading and discount prescription cards. This year, United Way will give away 101 FREE children’s life jackets on June 4th from 10am to noon at the Ponca City Public Library during the Healthy Living Celebration. “We know how important it is for children to be safe while participating in water activities,” says Melissa Young, United Way Executive Director. “It’s simple, life jackets saves lives.”

To receive a life jacket children must be present and accompanied by an adult. Sizes range from Infant: up to 30 lbs, Child: 30-50 lbs and Youth: 50-90 lbs, all life jackets are U.S. Coast Guard approved. Supplies are limited and will be given out first come first serve. Families will also receive a goodie bag with Safety Tips prepared by the American Red Cross, Sunglasses provide by the Healthy Living Program, Ice Cream tokens donated by Freddy’s Frozen Custard and many other items.
