Free
Tax Preparation
Free
Tax Preparation is being offered at the United Way Financial
Stability Initiative office in Ponca City. The Volunteer
Income Tax Assistance or VITA site offers free tax help to
individuals with low-to-moderate income.
To be eligible this year,
families must have made less than $50,000 and individuals
less than $43,000.
Taxes
are prepared by IRS-certified community volunteer tax
preparers who undergo training to be able to help
individuals claim all the benefits they deserve. The tax
preparers can help with special credits, such as Earned
Income Tax Credit where one may qualify for up to $4,824, as
well as Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, and Credit for
the Elderly.
In
addition to free tax return preparation assistance, the site
offers free electronic filing (e-filing). Individuals taking
advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds
in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even
faster if you have the refund deposited directly into a bank
account.
The
Financial Stability Initiative goals are to assist working
families in achieving their financial goals. The aim of the
program is to decrease poverty and expand economic
independence in Kay County by increasing participation and
use of Tax Credits by eligible families. This is done
through free tax assistance, financial education, and
connecting individuals to community resources that will help
build a secure financial future.
