WHO CHAMPION THE CAUSE

            

 

ANNUAL MEETING AND AWARDS LUNCHEON
Pat Mulligan, 2011 United Way of Ponca City board president welcomed over 70 guests to the 73rd United Way annual meeting and awards celebration held at Zino’s Restaurant on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Mulligan acknowledged the 14 member agencies, their guests and the United Way team, which includes United Way sponsored programs. 

Barry Bickle, 2011-2012 campaign chair, reported to those assembled that $652,154.00 was raised and allocated to member agencies, initiatives, and the United Way office. Those recognized and receiving awards for their volunteer service included cabinet members, Deb Altman, Katy Muller, Dawn Brakey, Kim Hess, Tana McKinley, Dr. Nancy Niemann, Mark Southard, Andy Wachtel, United Way board members and Lois Bickle. Barry gave a special thank you to those serving on the Admissions and Allocation Committee, Rhonda Stolhand, Committee Chair, Terri Busch, Joe DeNoya, Bob Gingerich, Sandy James, Shasta Scott, Debra Vap, Teri Woodman and Joe Theobald.  

The Friend of United Way award was presented to ConocoPhillips for the long time support of United Way. Through the efforts of CoP Campaign Chair, Mark Southard and an energetic Campaign Cabinet, many events were held in efforts to raise money for United Way. ConocoPhillips kicked-off campaign with a Gate Awareness event that provided each employee with breakfast and information about United Way and its member agencies.  Other events throughout campaign included a Silent Auction, NewCo’s Got Talent contest, BBQ luncheon and bake sale, Root Beer float day and a Raffle.  Committee members Diane Anderson, Debbie Frees, Steve Flowers, Edgar Gallegos, Susie Howey, Rachel Monger, Jamie Parton, Kelli Payne, Lori Schiltz, Debbie, Sievert and Denise Sodowsky contributed their time and talents to make all these events successful.  

During the Annual Meeting, a special recognition was given to Chris McCann, Teresa Angle, Kevin Tapp, Stacie Cunningham and Dean Gratias for organizing and raising $34,320.00 for United Way at the 1st Annual ConocoPhillips and Contractor Services golf tournament. With the support of CoP, its contractors and Lew Wentz staff, the event was a great success with 41 teams participating in this one-day event. Other company events recognized at the meeting was the City of Ponca City kickoff, Live Auction held at Pioneer Technology Center and Kiss the Pig fundraiser at Ponca City Medical Center.  

Barry Bickle-Eastman National Bank, who led this year’s campaign, has moved into the presidency for 2012.  Terri Busch-Pioneer Technology Center will chair the 2012 campaign. Steve Tiger-Pioneer Technology Center will move from board member to 2nd Vice President and Assistant Campaign Chair.  Donna Trewitt-Evans and Associates will continue to serve as Treasurer, Rhonda Stolhand-Stolhand Heating & Air as chairperson of the Admissions and Allocation Committee and Mary Beth Moore-OSU/UML will continue as Public Relations chairperson. Pat Mulligan-Wells Fargo Advisors remains on the executive committee as past president.

Members of the board of directors are: Debi Vap-RCB Bank, Tana McKinley-City of Ponca City, Mike Culver-A + Printing, Teresa Smith-Pioneer Technology Center, Charles Snow-Ponca City Medical Center, Jeff Johnson-Host Analytics, Carla Hobbs-Ponca City Medical Center, Dave Schaller-RCB Bank, Linus Schmitz-Community Volunteer, Sandy James-OSU/UML, Erin Ward-Host Analytics, Erin Liberton-City National Bank, Mark Southard-ConocoPhillips and Natalie Waller-Eastman National Bank.   

Outgoing board members honored included Carlos Centurion-ConocoPhillips, Cindy Empting-Urgent Care & Family Practice and Joe DeNoya-Pemberton Chevrolet.

United Way helps support the following member agencies and initiatives: American Red Cross, Boy Scouts Cimarron Council, Child Development Center, Domestic Violence Program of North Central Oklahoma, Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma, Golden Villa Adult Day Services, Heartline 2-1-1, New Emergency Resource Agency, Northern Oklahoma Youth Services, Peachtree Landing, RSVP, The Salvation Army, Smart Start Kay County and the YMCA. These agencies and initiatives provide vital services to our community and your investment enable these agencies to continue quality services to all Ponca Citians. 

The United Way of Ponca City board of directors meets at noon, the second Tuesday of the month at the United Way office and all meetings are open to the public. For more information on becoming a member of the board, committee member or campaign volunteer, call 765-2476.
